Why I’ve Always Been the Girl with the Camera (And Why Your Hawaii Beach Day Matters)
Salt, Sand, and a Lifelong Obsession
If we were heading out to surf, I had my camera.
If we were going to the Outrigger, I was checking my battery. If we were walking the rocks at Waimea or hunting for hidden caves at Halona, my first thought was always, “Wait, I need to capture how pretty this is.” I wanted to relive those experiences again and again. I wasn’t trying to be a photographer back then; I just couldn’t help myself. I felt like the world was too beautiful to let those moments just slip away.
That never changed.
I’ve always been doing this.
The only difference is that now, I’ve found a way to share that obsession with you.
(in much better quality)
I still do traditional land portraits—and I love them, they are my bread and butter—but my heart? My heart lives in the water. It’s where my cup is filled, and when I’m in the ocean with a camera in my hand, I am operating at my absolute peak.
When you book a Boutique Coastal Country Experience with me, you aren’t just hiring a vendor. You’re joining me for a day that I am passionate about. You’re making my day just as much as I’m making yours.
We don’t do “stiff” here. We do real.
Then, we play.
We start our morning at a spot where the light hits the turquoise water just right. I’ll have the spread laid out—the salt-and-vinegar chips that satisfy my post-surf session cravings, the fresh poi that fueled my distance paddling races, and cold coconut water that beats a Liquid IV any day. We’ll sit, we’ll snack, and I’ll tell you the story of the Kalo plant and why it’s the heartbeat of our islands.
Then we’ll head into the water. This isn’t a 30-minute “smile at the lens” session. It’s a full experience. We might see Honu (sea turtles) gliding past us. If it’s February, we see a whale breach on the horizon. Because we’re taking our time and staying present, the ocean reveals things you’d never see on a rushed tourist tour.
I’m capturing the splash, the laughter, and the quiet moments in between. I’m looking for the way the light filters through a wave or the look on your child’s face when they realize poi, and li hing don’t necessarily taste the way they look!

Why does all this matter?
To me, the ‘Coastal Country’ lifestyle is about more than just a look; it’s about a reclamation of our connection to the natural world. We live in a time where we move from screen to screen, building to building, forgetting that the earth has seasons—forgetting that fresh fruits are a fleeting gift, not a year-round entitlement. When you step onto the sand for a session, I’m inviting you to get back in touch. Some days the trade winds howl, and some days the winter rains roll in off the mountains. But that is the real world, and it is beautiful. Locals don’t wait for the ‘perfect’ forecast; we go because we love it and we live it, not just because it’s pretty and perfect, although that is a bonus. This session is your chance to stop fighting the elements and start living with them. By the time we’re done, you aren’t just leaving with a gallery of memories; you’re leaving with a piece of that connection to the land and the ocean that makes Hawaii so special. You’re not a spectator anymore—you’re part of it.
You’re getting over 100 high-resolution memories of a day where you didn’t have to worry about the logistics, the snacks, or “looking good.” You just had to show up and be you.
I’ve been doing this since I was a little girl, and I can’t wait to do it with you.

This is the cornerstone of true lifestyle photography:
capturing a life as it actually unfolds, not as it’s being performed for a lens. There is a profound difference between setting something up to look ‘real’ and being a witness to a moment that is genuinely happening. When you stop posing and start simply being—whether that’s catching a wave, laughing through the salt spray, or sharing a quiet look—the camera disappears. What’s left isn’t just a pretty picture; it’s the honest evidence of the experience itself. That is the ‘During’—the messy, beautiful, unstaged heart of the memories we actually want to keep.
