The Woman Behind the Lens

If you’re here, it’s probably because you don’t want a “fake” experience. You love the ocean, you value authenticity, and you want memories that feel as real as the sand between your toes. I’m Kendall—a Kailua local, a lifelong surfer, and a competitive outrigger paddler (Imua Kailua!) who believes that the best art happens when you’re living a life that fills your cup.

I didn’t just pick up a camera and a water housing and call myself an ocean photographer. I grew up shooting and bodysurfing at Sandy’s, earning my place in some of the most dangerous shorebreak in the world. I’ve spent my life in the ocean, no matter what the weather or surf report said.

When I say I can handle a camera in the elements, I mean it. Last year, I raced in the Na Wahine O Ke Kai—the world championship of long-distance paddling. In between 15-minute sets of battling the channel, I was grabbing my housing from the escort boat to capture the magic of the race. As a former Junior Lifeguard, your safety and comfort in the water are always my first priority. It takes a lot to shake me, and I’m here to make sure you feel just as steady.

I believe the world is a better place when we do what we love. For me, that’s being in the water.

While traditional country life often evokes images of boots and vast, open landscapes, my parallels lie with the sea. Our culture is built on community: we craft lei for our loved ones, welcome newcomers with open arms, and care for one another.

It’s about being adventurous enough to immerse yourself in the elements and being deeply connected to nature and the community. The tides and the natural world shape our lives, and the laid-back, tight-knit spirit we share is truly special. I live my life by the ocean. I don’t need a weather app to tell me about the conditions because I experience them every day! I can determine the tide just by observing Popoia Island and feeling the texture of the sand.

When you choose to work with me, I won’t just stand back on the beach while you pose; I’ll be right there with you, fully engaged in the fun, capturing moments as you enjoy being together. By hiring me, you’re not just getting photographs; you’re receiving a piece of the genuine lifestyle that makes Hawaii so magical.

I firmly believe that to be your best self for the people you love, you need to engage in activities that make you come alive. For me, that activity is paddling. Most of the year, you’ll find me at Kailua Canoe Club with my OC6 crew, training four days a week for weekend races.

Paddling isn’t just a sport; it’s a lifestyle. It keeps me:

  • Ocean-Tuned: Being in the water daily allows me to feel the swells and currents changing in real time. I know exactly where the water is clear and where it’s safe.
  • Physically Conditioned: Shooting in the impact zone requires strength and spatial awareness. My training ensures that I’m in “ocean shape,” enabling me to swim with a heavy camera while fully focusing on your family and capturing every moment.
  • Connected: If you’re in Kailua on a Thursday evening, you’ll likely see us at the Kailua Canoe Club Halau, sharing stories and enjoying a few beers after practice. That’s the life I lead, and it’s the authentic energy I bring to every session.

Talk Story

When you book a session with me, you’re not just hiring a photographer; you’re getting a neighbor and a waterwoman who understands the challenges ahead. I promise you that a tantrum from a 2-year-old or a 50-year-old is nowhere near as intimidating as a set wave about to break on your head. My goal is to ensure that when you look at your photos ten years from now, you won’t just see an image—you will feel the energy of the day and be able to relive those moments for years to come.
